Looking for a gift for a special gardener in your life but aren’t sure what to get?
You’ve come to the right place! I have put together 15 of my best gift ideas for gardeners that are thoughtful and unique.
These gardening gifts would be perfect for any home gardener and for any occasion—birthdays, Christmas, Valentine’s Day or Last Frost Day.
Oh do you not celebrate Last Frost Day? Well, I guarantee your gardener friend does!
I own most of the items on this list and would be thrilled to receive any of these gifts.
Hopefully one of these will be just right for your own beloved gardener.
I’ve broken up the list into different categories as listed below. Feel free to skip to the category you want to see first.
For the Love of Plants
Cute Plant Lady Mug
A friend got me this mug from Target and I think it’s the cutest. Perfect for the special plant lady in your life.
Pair this with some herbal tea from your own garden or a pretty tin of tea like this one from Harney & Sons and you’ve got a unique gift!
Mushroom Grow Kit
I have been eyeing these mushroom growing kits for a while now. I love mushrooms and to be able to grow my own at home in only 2 weeks would be so fun to try. Maybe I’ll forward this link and ask people to get me this for Christmas.
A Book Vase
Like to read? These book vases are so cute and look beautiful with or without something in it.
There are several good books to choose from including Pride and Prejudice, The Great Gatsby, and Twas the Night Before Christmas.
Or maybe a book planter is more your style.
Add a small plant like one of these listed below and you’ve got the perfect gift for a book and plant lover.
- pothos
- tradescantia
- spider plant
- peperomia
- string of pearls
- begonia
- creeping fig
Books
Speaking of books, I have a whole post on 10 of my favorite gardening books, which you can check out here if you’re looking for a more in-depth guide.
Any of them would make great gifts, but I would particularly recommend these three for gifting.
Garden Tools
Hori-Hori Knife
Besides feeling like a hardcore boss gardener when I carry this hori-hori knife, it actually is useful in the garden for a lot of things.
I use it for weeding, transplanting, dividing perennials, making furrows to plant seeds, and for hacking down kale and sunflowers.
I do not recommend keeping this knife unsheathed in your back pocket.
Seed Starting Bundle from Bootstrap Farmer
Bootstrap Farmer makes the best quality and prettiest seed starting trays and materials. I’ve featured the Ultimate Backyard Gardener Bundle in the photo above which includes everything a home gardener would need to start seeds at home. (The heat mat and lights can also be added onto this bundle.)
Besides the pretty colors (also comes in black and some other colors if you don’t like the ones shown here), these 1020 trays and seed pots are made of high quality, durable plastic material and will last years beyond the cheap plastic we’re used to seeing at the nursery and home improvement stores.
I am a big fan of these seed starting trays and pots and I do believe they are worth the investment.
Felco Pruners
I use my pruners a lot in the garden for harvesting flowers, pruning plants, and collecting clippings to propagate.
It helps to have a good quality ergonomic pair. I absolutely love my Felcos and matching holster and highly recommend the F2.
Nice quality garden pruners always make a useful gift for gardeners and would make be perfect paired with a sharpener and the 980 spray for maintaining the pruners.
Harvest Basket
Nothing makes a gardener’s heart happier than a beautiful basket brimming with treasures from the garden.
I have several harvest baskets that I enjoy using. This one from Botanical Interests is sturdy with a classic design.
Pop a seed collection like one of these to complete the gift.
Harvest Apron
I love the hands-free design of this harvest apron. You can use both hands to harvest.
Then when you’re ready to unload, undo the laces and pour your harvest into a separate container.
It’s genius, and cute. Just the right gift for a busy homesteading gardener.
Growing from Seed
Seed Banks
Gardeners can never have enough seeds! There are so many exciting flower and vegetable varieties to choose from, many of which you’ll never be able to see or taste unless you grow it yourself.
So if all else fails, give a gardener the gift of seeds.
Also, it should be noted that although seeds have an expiration date, they do not really expire. They will still germinate after the “packed for” date has passed. I explain more about this topic in this post on seed secrets.
These seed banks from Lush & Dew will make a gorgeous gift for any gardener in your life. The seed banks come in a beautiful wooden box with a metal latch and seeds are packaged in small acrylic containers.
Gardeners who like to keep things organized and aesthetic will love these seed banks and can reuse the boxes for years to come.
Here are three of my favorite collections.
- Cut-Flower Garden Seed Bank (has a nice mix of easy to grow cut-flowers)
- All-in-One Kitchen Garden Seed Bank (great selection of veggies, salads, herbs, and fruits)
- Cooking Spices Seed Bank (grow your own kitchen spices)
Bottle Gardening Kit
Bottle gardening is a passive hydroponic gardening system where you can grow plants with recycled bottles. This kit from Urban Leaf includes everything but the bottles.
Don’t you think this would be the perfect gift paired with a nice bottle of wine?
Microgreens Kit
I love the design of this self-watering microgreens planter and that it’s made of clay. I don’t do bonsai myself, but this does look like it would be perfect for that as well.
Show Your Favorite Gardener Some Love
Gardeners are a thrifty bunch and we don’t often spend a lot on themselves. That’s why we need you, our friends and family, to buy us gifts!
I hope you were able to get some ideas from this gardening gift list and can shower your favorite gardener with love and care.
